For the first phase of the painting, my goal was to understand the position of the main objects and create the motion of the painting. I had prepared 3 color bowls of paint from my chosen pallete and very quickly applied it on the paper. Strokes of the paint were made following the road path. Areas of the car reflectors are not painted.
Step 2
Painting in details: people, street light... Working on building up the background.
Step 3
One of the 1st splashes of pigment over the painting is presented on this image. It will always be much more intense looking after you splash or glaze till it dries. Depending on the amount of color mixed in the water it will give a different effect after drying.
Step 4
Pigment splattering was done a few times already. I had to wait every time after splashing for the effect of dots. If paper is still wet when you splash, color will just spread around and the effect will be "blurry".
Step 5
To create a sense of motion I used a sponge on the wet paper, when you drag it, pigment helps to carry watercolor paint over the paper. For this effect, it was necessary to apply a few layers of gouache on the paper.
Step 6
Making more drips, mixing paint with some white gouache paint.
