"Deep Water"
watercolor on rough paper
61" x 40"
V 2011

Looking at the light that is coming through the rippled surface of the water, moving slowly deeper and deeper, disappearing quietly into the dark peaceful ocean... I can not take my eyes off this fascinating light effect.

While painting this work I mainly used Winsor Green and Indigo. For the texture I applied paint by splashing. There is also some white pigment on the top part of the painting. There were two fishes painted on the lower right corner. They were very hard to notice, a little light reflection on their body would only give them away. But once you notice them, they suddenly became the main focus of the painting. I had to take them away, because this was too distracting from my main idea. Think of it now as the fish are still there, there is always life in deep water, even when you can't see it.
